Keep the anhydrous ammonia liquid above its vapor pressure at the flow meter inlet. At 15 °C the vapor pressure of ammonia is about 7.3 bar. At 30 °C it rises to about 11.7 bar. If the flow meter inlet pressure drops below this, the liquid flashes. You get a noisy reading and gas locking inside the meter body.
Typical farm settings are 8 bar to 14 bar at the nurse tank liquid outlet and 6 bar to 10 bar after the heat exchanger. Always check the pressure gauge before calibrating. Use a PT100 sensor to measure liquid temperature. The density of ammonia changes from about 682 kg/m³ at negative 33 °C to around 610 kg/m³ at 20 °C. Without temperature compensation, a volumetric Hiniker meter can shift 1 to 3 percent.
