Rosemount Flow Meter Stock: Industry Workhorse 8705 and 3051S Process Inline Units

Quick Answer: The Rosemount 8705 magnetic flowmeter and the 3051S inline pressure transmitter are two process units we keep in stock for water, chemical, food, and oil gas plants. Standard stock covers DN15 to DN600 for conductive liquids and 0 to 100 bar for inline pressure measurement. Send your fluid type, flow range in m3/h, temperature in °C, pressure in bar, and pipe size DN for a same week quote.

Why the 8705 and 3051S Are Plant Workhorses

The 8705 sensor appears on water treatment lines, chemical dosing skids, and food processing systems more than most flow instruments. It handles conductive liquids from 5 µS/cm and above. Standard liner choices include PTFE for temperatures up to 100 °C and PFA for up to 180 °C. Electrodes come in 316L stainless steel, Hastelloy C, and titanium. Accuracy is typically plus or minus 0.25 percent of reading on calibrated ranges. Viscosity changes up to a few hundred cP rarely affect the measurement. Some plants pair the 8705 with a PT100 for heat metering in hot water loops.

The 3051S inline pressure transmitter is the companion instrument that many engineers specify on the same skid. Rangeability reaches 200 to 1. Reference accuracy is 0.025 percent on some spans. Standard output is 4-20 mA HART. Process connections are usually 1/2 NPT or M20. With ATEX Zone 1 housings and IP66 ratings, these transmitters survive outdoor installation in the Middle East, West Africa, and along the Australian coast.

Common Stock Configurations for 8705 and 3051S

We keep the 8705 in DN15, DN25, DN40, DN50, DN80, DN100, DN150, DN200, DN300, and DN600. Flange ratings include ANSI 150, ANSI 300, PN16, and PN40. Most stock sensors have PTFE or PFA liners. Some units have EPDM liners for abrasive slurry service. Electrode materials in stock include 316L stainless steel and Hastelloy C.

For the 3051S, common stock spans are 0 to 10 bar, 0 to 40 bar, and 0 to 100 bar. HART protocol is standard. Some units carry a local display with zero and span buttons. Mounting is inline for direct process pressure. For flow measurement on non-conductive fluids like diesel or crude oil, the 3051S works with an orifice plate or an averaging pitot tube.

What We See on Customer Sites

Last year a paint manufacturer in Southeast Asia needed a DN80 8705 sensor for solvent based resins. The process ran at 55 °C and line pressure stayed below 6 bar. We supplied a unit with PTFE liner and Hastelloy C electrodes. The plant had used a different brand before and replaced it after a liner failure. The new sensor has been in service for 14 months without a shutdown.

A desalination plant in Oman ordered three 3051S transmitters for high pressure pump discharge monitoring. Feed pressure ran from 55 to 75 bar. The units were set to 0 to 100 bar with 4-20 mA HART signals going to a PLC. The local display helped operators check pressure without opening the control cabinet.

How to Specify the Right Stock Unit

Most engineers skip the long data sheet and send four things. Fluid type and conductivity. Temperature and pressure in bar. Pipe size DN. Required flow range in m3/h or kg/h. Add the output protocol and area classification if the site has explosive gas or dust. For 8705 sensors we also need the liner and electrode material. For 3051S transmitters we need the process connection and whether local indication is required.

FAQ on 8705 and 3051S Stock

Q: What is the minimum conductivity for the 8705 flowmeter?
A: The 8705 measures liquids with at least 5 µS/cm. Water, acids, caustic, and many food liquids meet this. Diesel, oil, and pure solvents do not.

Q: Can the 3051S measure flow?
A: Yes with an orifice plate or a pitot tube. It outputs 4-20 mA HART from differential pressure. For conductive liquids the 8705 is simpler. For non-conductive fluids use the 3051S with a primary element.

Q: What liner works for hot acid in the 8705?
A: PFA liner with Hastelloy C electrodes covers many acids up to 180 °C. Hydrofluoric acid needs special consideration. Send your acid concentration and temperature.

Q: Do you keep ATEX Zone 1 stock?
A: Yes we stock Zone 1 models for both the 3051S and 8705. Specify gas group and temperature class when you ask for a quote.

Q: What is the normal lead time from Silver Automation Instruments?
A: Stock units are ready in our warehouse. Export packing and documents take 2 to 4 working days. Custom ranges and special electrodes add 2 to 4 weeks.
